Winter bivy near the Dirty Devil river in Utah. Nunatak Alpinist 20° center zip mummy bag, Arc Pro Quilt with the new ultralight (0.74 oz/yd)waterproof/breathable shell, and, if you look closely, an Amarok down filled dog coat!

The layout of the Arc Alpinist is more form fitting than the regular Arc Quilts, helping to eliminate air pockets and extra bulk, but also do not allow the quilt in comforter mode to be quite as 'open' and sprawling.

The Arc Alpinist can be used as a hoodless mummy bag in a number of ways: With the zipper facing down and closed for a snug, draft free setup; or with the zipper up in similar fashion to the Nunatak Alpinist center zip mummy bag for effective venting and ease of getting in and out.

Alternately, with the zipper fully open and disengaged, the Arc Alpinist enters full quilt comforter mode, merely draped over the user, for maximum coverage and temperature control. The foot section remains closed in all configurations.

Raku, the classic sleeved bag with an openable foot here in a massive 0°F winter capable version. Special order pink 0.66 sq.yd Membrane, an ultralight fabric allowing a total weight a good bit under 3 pounds - of which more than 75% is down!

Introducing the Sastrugi, a climber's specific sitting or laying full length, zipper-less bivy sleeping bag. Designed to be used with a down hoodie, such as the Skaha, it is insulated to 20° in the lower two-thirds and 40° in the upper part. The top is a simple drawcord controlled opening with an 8" taller backside to accommodate the difference in front to back overall length when sitting. Also incorporated is a slightly more wear resistant underside fabric and ultralight top and inner liner material. Two tone shell color makes it simple to orient the bag correctly in low light or when fatigued. The absence of zippers makes the Sastrugi durable and dependable, with lower weight and bulk.

As pictured, in size long and with Hyper-Dry moisture resistant 900 down fill, the Sastrugi weighs 600 grams.

Currently special order only. $450

At 535 grams this custom size long Alpinist in a conservative 35° temperature rating is a highly capable 2-3 season mummy. Shown here with .66 Membrane shell and liner, Hyper-Dry down and a 28" front zipper backed by double overlapping draft tubes. Nunatak's budget oriented Arc Lite 20F Quilt, starting at $245, is shown here boosted with 4 ounces of overfill for an additional $40.

This pushes the quilt to borderline four season use at a very friendly price. 28 ounces total for size long.

Special order Hot Pink Membrane 0.66 oz/yd Skaha Hoodie. Shown with 2.8 ounces of overfill.

20° Alpinist down filled mummy bag paired with the synthetic filled Climashield Apex 40° Gamut Quilt creates a lightweight combination suitable for a wide range of conditions.

Perhaps most important, the synthetic over-quilt protects the down from damp tent walls or light rain and spray as experienced under UL tarps. Condensing body moisture, so prevalent during winter adventures, settle on the easily dried over quilt instead of the down filled inner bag.

The Alpinist and Gamut Quilt are designed to work as unit, with correct sizing relationship to maintain crucial loft. The strap placements and neck closure of the quilt works together with the mummy to make exit and entry simple.

Total weight of the package pictured is 2lbs 13oz.

To further dial in specific needs, the Alpinist is offered in 20° and 40° versions, while the Gamut Quilt is available with 30° - 40° - 50° fill options.

A 40°/40° setup would create an incredibly versatile sleep system, suitable for anything save the depth of winter. All at weight of just over 2 lbs.

The sleeved Raku and an Alpinist mummy going to a small aircraft training academy in the Northwest, offering courses in crash survival. Both sleeping bags have Epic weather proof shells and moisture resistant Hyper-Dry down. 20° rating.

Tanuki kept squeezing his way onto the owner's down sleeping bag. No way to get him off! Until.. we built Tanuki a down filled bed. Now there's harmony in the tent. Ultralight, compact, with Hyper-Dry down and Pertex Quantum fabrics. Straps hold the bed in place on top of an Ensolite pad (not included, but necessary in most mountain climates). This custom product is not shown on the website, 24"x36", $125.

As ultra running and adventure racing gets more and more demanding, so are the requirements for the gear. For extreme pursuits like thru-hiking the John Muir Trail with the aim of achieving the fastest known time (aka FKT), participants do not rest much! But when they do, the recovery period needs to be applied fast, with simple means and provide effective results.

A setup like the one above, combining ultralight, super compact equipment is well suited for fringe sports of that sort. Total weight in size large is a hair over 500 grams, and the comfort rating right at 40°.

Nunatak has always offered custom sizing, features and options on all products. On this jacket the customer wanted a sleeve end finish with elastic drawcord instead of the stock Velcro. He supplied sketches and pics with exact placement and size configuration, even specifying the precise type of cord lock to be used. No problem!

For our trusted canine hiking partner we now offer a high quality down insulated, fully baffled - and custom fitted -  Essential for camp wear or sleeping in colder climes.

Our fabrics are down proof, off course, and also treated with industry leading Durable Water Repellent (aka DWR) applications. But sometimes a DWR is not enough. This customer is aware of the typical damp and/or drafty conditions in modern single wall shelters and wanted to protect the foot end of his quilt to a higher degree. A custom transition to an Epic shell fabric in the foot region gives superior protection, while still allowing the critical 'breathability'.

The Nunatak Raku is still going strong. Frequently updated to reflect changing needs this sleeved, convertible foot hybrid was first introduced in 1999 - and received Backpacker Magazine's Editor's Choice Award sometime back then too. Shown here in a custom lightweight 32° edition. The multicam nylon is Nanosphere treated for those damp days of fall when all the camo comes out.

We have made thousands of backcountry quilts since 1999.
