Ultralight Shell fabrics:

 10d - 0.72 oz Ripstop Nylon.

An ultralight and very breathable 10 denier ripstop nylon that offers excellent wind resistance, a soft hand, and tested down proofing in both lab and field use. With a finished weight of 0.72 oz/yd, our exclusive 10d is a small step above the thinnest/lightest nylon fabrics on the market today - giving it an edge in durability. Transparency makes it change hue with down fill.

Appearance: Micro ripstop pattern, medium shiny, quiet.

Coating: Factory applied DWR (Durable Water Repellent). This will ensure excellent breathability while providing just minimal protection from exterior moisture infiltration. 48.92 CFM

USE: Shell material for projects requiring the light weight and minimal stuffed bulk. This is a specialist fabric, for users willing to adjust to a compromise in durability and tear strength. Well suited to the the protected life of a quilt. The careful user can cut extra grams by applying it for jackets and pants.

The lightness of 10d Ripstop translates to superior lofting ability of 900+ fill power down.

Classic Shell Fabrics:

15d - 0.98 oz Ripstop Nylon

While only 15d this fabric is a significant step up in durability and tear strength over the 10d.  Almost ultralight certified, with just a slight weight penalty between ¾ - 1½ ounces depending on project. Calendered, down proof.

Appearance: Large ripstop pattern, medium matte, quiet.

Coating: Factory applied DWR (Durable Water Repellent). This will ensure excellent breathability while providing minimal protection from exterior moisture infiltration. 40.13 CFM

USE: Shell material appropriate for most ultralight outerwear. The 15d weight have long been the go-to choice among backpackers aiming to take the step into the realm of ultralight gear. With normal care this range of shells offers reasonable durability. Also offered for some quilts and bags.

Shell Fabric. Tough & Abrasion Resistant with added Weatherproofing

40d - 1.7 oz  Epic by Nex-Tec: Orange

your-image.pngAt 1.7 oz/sq. yard, this polyester microfiber features a durable water resistant silicone fiber encapsulation. The result is a breathable, highly water resistant, soft and pliable material that allows for excellent loft.

Appearance: Micro ripstop pattern, solid matte finish, silent.

Coating: A silicone encapsulation process inherent in the fabric. This provides an upgraded weather resistance compared to traditional water repellent coatings such as DWR.

USE: A good weather protective option especially for garments. For users requiring more than the usual abrasion resistance. Epic excels in damp climates, open sided tarp shelters, light bushwhacking and mild abuse. Note: A product built with an EPIC shell will gain a fair bit of weight and bulk compared to the significantly lighter materials listed above.

Ultralight Shell Options, with Enhanced Water Resistance:

7d - 0.74 oz Robic Ripstop Nylon: Charcoal Grey, Black

Extraordinarily light, this 7d fabric is our finest denier count material.

Appearance: Micro ripstop pattern, medium shiny, lightly crinkly when new.

Coating: Treated with a microporous PU coating on the inside and a standard DWR application on the weather side. The ability to hold out moisture is very good with a HH of 1000mm, but not quite on par with the DryDome below. Breathability rate is adequate for down products. For a fabric with a square yard weight of well under an ounce, the Robic is relatively durable.

USE: For applications where both UL principles AND weatherproofing come together as a definite need. Selectable option for our quilts.

 10d - 1.4 oz/yard DryDome Ripstop Nylon: Moroccan Blue

A classic laminate, manufactured like other well known waterproof/breathables (WP/B): A base fabric with a Teflon style film layer laminated onto the inside face and a DWR on the outside. However, the unique quality of the DryDome, not seen in many other laminates, is the low square yard weight of 1.4 ounces, easily 25% less than the closest competitor. Choosing a 10d ripstop nylon base fabric, together with an upgraded WP/B film, makes this possible. It is decidedly a cutting edge high-tech material, but best not exposed to much abuse. This is the case with most super-ultralight fabrics, but here the lamination process further pre-stresses the fabric, So, user beware!

Appearance: Large ripstop pattern, medium matte, lightly crinkly when new.

USE: For conditions where the best protection against moisture intrusion in a relatively lightweight package is desired.

LINER FABRICS, Calendered & Breathable:

20d - 1.0 oz Nylon Taffeta: Black

This high quality, silky smooth 20d nylon taffeta is specifically designed for the lining side of down gear. Comfortable against bare skin; low friction for turning; silent and soft. Tough enough to deal with calloused feet. Light DWR. Black only.

Appearance: No ripstop, solid matte, silent.

Coating: Light DWR (Durable Water Repellent) 45.2 CFM

USE: Liner material of choice on projects subjected to above average user abrasion/wear on the inside.

10d - 0.67 oz Nylon Taffeta: Black

An ultralight 10 denier taffeta (non ripstop) nylon that is very breathable, calendered, and down proof. It offers excellent wind/water resistance, a soft hand, and tested down proofing in both lab and field use. With a finished weight of 0.67 oz/yd, our 10d taffeta is one of the thinnest/lightest taffeta nylon fabrics on the market today.

Appearance: No ripstop, medium shiny, quiet.

Coating: Light DWR (Durable Water Repellent) 48.92 CFM

USE: Liner for projects requiring the lightest weight and minimal stuffed bulk.  This is a specialist fabric, for users willing to adjust to lowered durability and tear strength. Well suited to the protected life of a quilt. The lightness translates to superior lofting ability of 900+ fill power down.

40d - 1.55 oz Nylon Ripstop Multicam

The multicam 40d, 1.55 oz./ sq. yd. ripstop nylon fabric balances light weight with the excellent tear strength of nylon. The fabric has been processed to reduce air permeability and increase down-proofness, which also creates excellent wind-break properties for open use. Not quite as silent as the 70d polyester.

Coating: The NanoSphere® liquid repellency process offers a medium level resistance to moisture.

USE: Down insulated camo products are made with this comparatively lighter 40d shell to facilitate full lofting of our premium 900 FP goose down.

70d - 1.9 oz Polyester Ripstop Multicam

70d, 1.9oz Multicam is a breathable medium weight polyester with a matte look. It is soft and supple and is face treated with a durable water repellent finish. Like the 40d above it also has low IR properties for night time utility, and is very quiet.

Coating: Factory applied DWR (Durable Water Repellent). This will offer minimal protection from exterior moisture infiltration.

USE: All our synthetic insulated camo jackets and sleeping bags use the 70d Multicam to give an edge in durability. This is our toughest stock fabric options. NB: Cannot be used in down insulated gear.
