The is the 'heavy duty' sibling to the PCT Jacket.
With 3 level of insulation, many features and a roomy fit, the APEX insulated PCT Plus excels during adverse weather conditions, or in any circumstance where moisture can infiltrate the insulation.
For those who prioritize durability over extreme weight consciousness, the PCT Plus is the one. Both fabrics and hardware choices are aimed at providing lasting utility.
Starting with a conventional jacket layout the PCT Plus can be configured with or without an extensive feature set.
With 8 basic sizes as starting points, one can further customize with sleeve and body length adjustments.
APEX by Climashield, a superior continuous filament synthetic insulation, is the choice here.
We have 3 weights available, from light (less warm) to heaviest (warm, but bulky). It's hard to attach a temperature rating to each, however we feel the most efficient balance of weight and warmth for 2-3 season mountain use in the continental US (and the Alps) is the 2.5 oz/yd. Folks who easily get cold might disagree, and for you we have 3.6 and even 5.0.
We also offer a few variable applications of fill. The option is to go down one or more levels for the sleeves and hood if the 3.6 or 5.0 is chosen. This will reduce weight and bulk in a fashion that makes sense: more insulation for the core, less for appendages.
The APEX specs:
2.5 oz/yd Climashield APEX - 85 g/m - light, compact, 2-3 season
3.6 oz/yd Climashield APEX - 122 g/m - in betweener, solid 3 season
5.0 oz/yd Climashield APEX - 170 g/m - bulky, light 4 season use
For the PCT Plus we offer reasonably lightweight fabrics with more tear strength and abrasion resistance than the ultra lightweight options offered elsewhere on this site. Listed below from lightest to toughest:
20d taffeta liner (inside) material: Soft and comfortable this matte black fabric is long lasting and moderately resistant to wear.
20d nylon ripstop shell. For the best in lightweight wear resistance, these breathable fabrics adds decent durability with a modest weight penalty. Silvery Black or Sage, Bright Blue, Purple, Crimson.
40d Epic. A tough and moderately weather resistant polyester, Epic sports a matte and quiet texture. Black and Pumpkin Orange.
40d Multicam ripstop nylon fabric balances light weight with the excellent tear strength of nylon. NanoSphere® offers a good moisture barrier.
70d Multicam polyester with a matte look. It is soft and supple and is face treated with a durable water repellent finish. Like Epsilon it also has low IR properties for night time utility, and is very quiet.
All exterior zippers are YKK #5.
The chart below outlines the many options for sizing the PCT Plus. The cut is generally aimed at providing a roomy fit, easily accommodating layering and backcountry utility.
If you choose the bulkier, warmer 5.0 oz/yd fill - expect a less roomy fit and a stiffer garment.
Either way, since these are built to order we saw no reason to limit the choices. 8 general sizes can be combined with custom 4 each sleeve and back lengths. Have at it!
