The
beauty of pure custom work is the ability to fine tune a product
exactly to the customer's need.
At Nunatak one of the many choices you can influence is the fabric
used for your sleeping bags or jacket.
We have a number of different materials and colors in stock at all
times. These all have varying properties and weights, and will have
different applications.
To help you on the way understanding what is best for your Nunatak
product we have a little introduction to each fabric later on this
page.
Feel free to give us a call if you want to learn more.
The unique fabrics that we offer are designed specifically to contain
and protect goose down from the elements. They are breathable to
permit body vapor to escape and have durable water-resistant treatments.
This modern arsenal of fabrics for down shells far outperforms previous
generations ability to breathe and repel water. Please note that
we do not re-sell our materials by the yard.

The new .8 Pertex Quantum is a fantastically light yet strong
fabric, featuring a 20% mass reduction over our trail proven
Quantum 1.0. Despite its tinfoil thin stature and low weight,
this new contender for the lightest possible yarn is still
hardcore outdoor worthy. A notably lighter hand and slight
increase in vapor transfer in an already highly breathable
material pushes this fabric to the top of the field. Same
DWR+ treatment as featured with all of our Mountain Class
Pertex fabrics.
Time will tell if this is the best Pertex fabric yet, as the
1.0 Quantum is well regarded and very stout for the weight.
We still recommend the 1.0 for most gear we build, but those
shaving grams will find the new .8 a significant step up in
performance.
NOTE: An additional
material fee applies to all 0.8oz Quantum orders: |

EPIC by Nextec ™: A revolutionary shell material for
down! At 1.7 oz/sq. yard, this polyester microfiber features
a unique and very durable water resistant fiber encapsulation.
The result is a highly breathable, extremely water resistant,
soft and pliable material that allows for excellent loft.
This fabric is a quantum leap in performance for a down shell
material and is actually made stronger by the silicone encapsulation.
The best choice for jackets and bags requiring the maximum
water and abrasion resistance. |

This 1.0 oz/sq. yard ripstop nylon shell is a super breathable
20 denier material from our friends at Pertex. The best choice
for down gear requiring the utmost breathability and lightest
shell weight. Just a hair heavier than our .85, this is the
lightest most breathable Pertex fabric ever. As with all fabrics
from Pertex, a DWR+ and exceptional softness translates to
high lofting down sleeping bags and down jackets. |

Fire Engine
Red, Sunflower Yellow
A light and breathable shell material weighing in at 1.3
ounces per square yard. More breathable and a bit less water
resistant than the EPIC by Nextec, this Pertex rip-stop nylon
is world famous for its durability and supple hand.
The fabric is significantly stronger than a .85 oz/sq. yard
nylon, yet has the soft feel of traditional taffeta.
The Pertex special DWR+ (Durable Water Resistance) treatment
will outlast and outperform other typical DWR treatments |

Black
Our silky smooth 20 D nylon taffeta is built especially for
the lining side of ultralight down gear. This is the perfect
liner for both a down expedition parka or an ultra light summer
down quilt. This new taffeta is 30% lighter than previous
generations of material and boasts a superior DWR finish.
A demanding role for a shell material, this strong nylon remains
nicely breathable with a fine weave and a soft hand. At 1
ounce per square yard it is durable enough for the long haul,
yet light enough for top level performance. We stock this
in black only. |
