This
concept provides the frequently requested link between our
quilts and a regular mummy type bag. It was originally conceived
by Glen van Peski of Gossamer Gear.
The Catabatic SL is a regular
mummy style sleeping bag, with the underside insulation replaced
by a single ultralight layer of fabric. This accomplishes
a number of things. First bulk and weight is greatly reduced,
always a quest in our designs.
Furthermore, the need for
a zipper as a mean of ventilation is eliminated: To cool off,
one simply rotates the bag to expose portions of the permeable
bottom fabric. Because of the added hood this may work better
with the regular Catabatic. Without
the zipper we again shave off several ounces, and reduce the
risk of mechanical failures.
Unlike our quilts, this
bag is bug proof, a concern for some of our customers who
favor tarps over tents.
The Catabatic SL is also
available without the hood, see here.
